The Authority of Jesus
Share
In Mark 11:28-33, Jesus is questioned about His authority by the religious leaders who sought to challenge Him. Instead of directly answering, He turns the question back on them, asking about the authority behind John the Baptist’s ministry. By doing so, Jesus exposes their fear of the people and their unwillingness to acknowledge the truth. This passage highlights the authority of Christ, which comes directly from God the Father. It also reveals the hardness of heart that can arise when people refuse to accept the truth of His lordship. As believers, we are called to submit fully to Jesus’ authority in our lives, recognizing that He reigns over all things. When we align ourselves under His rule, we walk in confidence, knowing that His guidance leads us in truth, righteousness, and purpose.
As always, remember, that I love you and I am praying over you!
Today's Scripture
Mark 11:28-33 (NIV)
'By what authority are you doing these things?' they asked. 'And who gave you authority to do this?' Jesus replied, 'I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. John’s baptism—was it from heaven, or of human origin? Tell me!' They discussed it among themselves and said, 'If we say, "From heaven," he will ask, "Then why didn’t you believe him?" But if we say, "Of human origin" … (They feared the people, for everyone held that John really was a prophet.)' So they answered Jesus, 'We don’t know.' Jesus said, 'Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.'
God's Guidance:
Jesus' authority is absolute, and as His followers, we must align our lives under His leadership. In Mark 11:28-33, we see how the religious leaders questioned Jesus, yet they were unwilling to acknowledge the truth of His authority. This serves as a reminder that submitting to Christ’s rule requires humility and faith. Trusting in His authority gives us confidence and direction, as we know He governs with wisdom and righteousness. When we recognize that His authority comes directly from God, we can walk boldly in His purpose, knowing that He is sovereign over every situation. Submitting to His leadership in all aspects of life—our decisions, our struggles, and our victories—brings us peace and assurance that we are following the divine plan He has set before us.
Application to Daily Life:
Submit your plans and decisions to Jesus today. Trust that His authority over your life leads to greater purpose and fulfillment. Seek Him first in prayer before making decisions, and surrender your desires to align with His will. Reflect on Proverbs 3:5-6, which reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding. When we acknowledge Him in all our ways, He will make our paths straight. By daily surrendering our ambitions, fears, and uncertainties to Jesus, we allow Him to guide our steps, open doors, and bring clarity and peace, knowing that His plans far exceed anything we could create on our own.
